1. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has registered with his Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM.

Obasanjo, who registered in Ogun State at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oke-Ilewo Abeokuta, asserted that the coalition was on course to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.

2. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed the ‘third force’ being promoted by former President Olusegun Obasanjo under the aegis of Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM)

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed the gathering as a non-event.

3. A splinter group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ‘Fresh PDP’ has set up an interim parallel National Working Committee (NWC) to take charge of its affairs.

The group announced plans to embark on a nationwide membership drive, which it noted would be done electronically.

4. The Kaduna State Government has announced the increment of public school teachers’ salary by 32.5 per cent.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru, said that 27.5 per cent would be added to all the teachers, while five per cent was incentive for teachers posted to rural areas.

5. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he greeted President Muhammadu Buhari at the African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, because of his upbringing.

Obasanjo explained that he had gone round to greet other African leaders present at the Summit and decided to also shake hands with Buhari.

6. Bashir Ahmed Hamadada, an aide to Senator Shehu Sani, has been arrested by soldiers in Kaduna.

Hamadada was arrested at his residence in Tudun-Wada area of Kaduna metropolis at about noon.

7. The Nigerian Senate said it has been vindicated on the rejection of the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi-Abdullahi, who briefed newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, announced that a Federal High Court had ruled that the upper chamber of the National Assembly had the powers to confirm or reject his appointment.

8. The Presidency has explained why the Federal Government cannot address the issues of farmers herdsmen clashes in Benue in spite of its determination to do so.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, the government is constrained by the limitations of the constitution.

9. President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of the appointment of Mr Edward Lametek Adamu as the new deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Adamu, a Christian from Gombe State is to replace Mr. Suleiman Barau who retired in December, 2017.

10. Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State yesterday, raised alarm over planned attack on the state in the next 10 days.

He said the state has had its share of herdsmen attacks and killings since the beginning of the year, noting that the situation in his state was as bad as that of Benue.
